Breakaway News Volume No. 25 Issue No. 2 February 2020

Love Is In The Air

Mid-February is deep into winter, but that’s when people tend to run hot; hot with love for that special someone. Happy Valentine’s Day for all our customers out there, and if you need that giant bouquet of rare orchids delivered along with the monster box of chocolates, well then give us a call to have it all delivered by your own personal Cupid.

 Ticket to Not Ride

2019 has been a sad year for cyclists in New York City. There were 220 pedestrian and cyclist deaths in the city last year. Trucks were involved in 43 of them. Yet, last year, cyclists received more traffic tickets than trucks; more than 35,000 compared to 34,600 for the large vehicles. That difference may seem slight, until you remember that cyclists make up less than two percent of traffic, while trucks are a full ten percent, and were involved in 21.5% of accidents. Plus, the number of trucks is increasing. Of course, we use trucks ourselves, but we also have our trusty cyclists and cargo bikes. Call us, and put our cyclists to work making our streets  safer for everyone.

There’s Your Problem

Weight gain and obesity, we keep hearing, is a problem across the United States. We at Breakaway have long advocated cycling as a way to shed pounds, but a look at the February holiday schedule shows that the problem is a bit deeper. Holidays include, and we’re not making this up, Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day, World Nutella Day, National Chocolate Fondue Day, National Pizza Day, and my favorite, Fettuccine Alfredo Day. All of which is before or around National Toothache Day. No, really, we’re not making this up.

Groundhog Day

Do we know if the groundhog will see its shadow? More importantly, do we care? We’ll stick to the meteorologists rather than the giant rodents, thanks.

Holiday Buy Out

February is also President’s Day, a day of solemn reflection on the accomplishments of Washington, Lincoln, and all the American Presidents. And, once that reflection is finished, a day where Americans go shopping for deals. If you find a deal, but it’s too large for you to move, call us for one of our trucks, and we’ll get it to you.

 It’s Logical, Captain

Now, if you’ve ordered or bought a lot of stuff, then you’re still in luck. Call us not only about our trucks and our lift-gate truck, but about warehousing services and logistics. We can store, organize, and ship out all the stuff you need to, well, store, organize and ship. Give us a call and see how easy we can make your life.

Stump the Band

Last month we asked what site in the High Peaks of the Adirondacks is only open from May to October, and was funded by New York State. Answer: Veteran’s Memorial Highway, which you can use to drive to the top of Whiteface Mountain.

 Trivia Question

It went from being a part of one New York City borough, to being an island, to being connected to a different borough.  What neighborhood is it? The first person to contact Gil Ortiz at gortiz@breakawaycourier.com or 646-674-8323 with the correct answer will win a coveted Breakaway T-shirt.
